Thanks to our generous supporters, the 2003 Chichester Open Art Exhibition was successfully held on November 8 –18 in the Assembly Rooms, Chichester. There were 664 entries, 70 of them from London and 10 others from outside the Southern region. Students put in 30 entries. Finally the judges (Nicholas Usherwood, Timothy Hyman and Shani Rhys James) selected 120 for hanging, of which 16 were from students. Some 2600 people visited the Exhibition during the two weeks, and 22 pictures were sold. The Chichester Observer wrote of the judges: "We’re looking for some kind of conviction, something that’s seen and deeply felt – we’re looking for that integrity," said Nicholas [Usherwood], who stressed the importance of open art exhibitions to encourage the possibility of emerging artists of the future. "There need to be more exhibitions like this at a higher level," added Timothy Hyman "…..it would be great if this could get bigger and better and expand." Here are some of the 2003 entries: |
